How Do Bartleby and Grammarly Work?

These tools do work a little bit differently, so lets's get into that now...

How to Use Grammarly

If you're interested in using Grammarly, you'll need to sign up for a free account on their website. Once you've done that, you have two options for submitting your work.

You can copy and paste your text into the box provided on the site, or you can install the Grammarly browser extension for added convenience.

After submitting your work, the AI will kick into gear and begin analyzing every sentence. It will suggest changes to improve the clarity, structure, and accuracy of your writing. This could include suggesting better word choices, adjusting sentence structure, or pointing out grammar errors.

How To Use Bartleby Write

Bartleby Write, on the other hand, is a bit different. It's mainly a virtual tool that you can access by visiting their website. From there, you can choose the option to proofread your paper, then upload your file or paste your text directly into the provided box.

As with Grammarly, Bartleby Write will then analyze your work and provide suggestions for improvement. However, there is a limit of 2500 words on the free plan. If you want to analyze more than that, you'll need to upgrade to a premium plan.

Grammarly vs Bartleby: Pricing

Grammarly Vs Bartleby: Pricing

Grammarly:

The premium version of Grammarly is a tad on the expensive side, but its pricing practices are transparent and legitimate. Their current pricing structure can be seen in the image below:

Bartleby:

There is only one pricing plan offered by Bartleby, and it costs $9.99 per month. They also offer the opportunity of getting your content reviewed by a live writing expert for $19.99 for one paper, or $49.99 for three.

Grammarly vs Bartleby: Features

The free version of Grammarly vs Bartleby's plan not only prevents embarrassing spelling mistakes and confusing grammar issues, but it also corrects incorrect punctuation.

Grammarly's tone detector helps you to write in a way that sounds just the way you want it to, whether it's friendly but not overly casual with a colleague, or concerned but not angry when asking for assistance.

In addition, Grammarly's free plan offers suggestions for tightening loose phrasing. For light editing, this free version will give you an edge over your competitors. However, if you want to elevate your content to the next level, the features of the premium version are sure to amaze.

Grammarly Premium Features

Premium users will receive the same features as free users, but with enhanced capabilities and additional features.

Users with premium accounts may notice green lines, which indicate engagement suggestions. You can use these tools to spot patterns in your writing and avoid them in the future, or you can use them to create variety in your sentences to keep your readers interested. It will also offer vocabulary suggestions to replace dull words with more captivating ones.

The Premium plan will also open you up to fluency suggestions. Take, for example, a French speaker who generally uses the word “chance”’ in place of the word "luck".

They would read the phrase "a good chance" and assume the writer meant to say “good luck.” Grammarly’s fluency suggestions can prevent linguistic mix-ups like these specific to a particular language.

Additionally, Grammarly Premium provides formatting suggestions, such as identifying when a hard-to-follow paragraph would be better as a series of bullet points. Which vastly improves the readability of your content.

To be sure you won't be mistaken for a copycat, Grammarly Premium's plagiarism detector searches the web, including academic databases, for phrases that match what’s in your draft, so you can be sure it's unmistakably yours.

Bartleby Features

Bartleby’s one-stop writing tool, you get Citation Tool, Plagiarism Checker, and Grammar and Spell Checker. With Bartleby Write, you can submit your paper with confidence. It reduces mistakes, improves writing habits, and transforms okay essays into stellar ones.

Spelling & Grammar Checkers: With Bartleby, you can opt to ignore or correct the given grammar and spelling suggestions.

Citations Generator: The AI analyzer will assist you with footnotes, citation styles, cited pages, works, and more.

Preliminary Scoring: Bartleby's AI analyzes millions of essays and papers to determine your preliminary grade so you can get an idea of where you stand before you submit.

Grammarly vs Bartleby: Customer Service

Grammarly Vs Bartleby: Customer Service

Many argue that Customer Service is where Bartleby loses a lot of its credibility. The company has garnered a reputation from its online reviews of customer support, and shady pricing practices.

There are a large number of reviews on TrustPilot.com and Mouthshut.com of past users of Bartleby warning that the company tends charging your payment method after you’ve canceled your subscription.

Getting this resolved is a headache because of poor customer service, and users rarely get their money back.

Unlike Bartleby, Grammarly makes it easy to cancel your account, and you won't be charged after your account is canceled. Grammarly's customer support is also excellent.

The Pros and Cons of Grammarly

Though Grammarly is an accurate and easy-to-use tool, it has its limitations. Currently, it works only in English. Therefore, if you are writing Spanish or French essays, consider using another editing software like ProWritingAid Premium or  Microsoft Word Editor.

Other pros and cons include:

ProsCons
The software includes a plagiarism detector and desktop applicationThe software will occasionally lag if you paste large blocks of text
Grammarly works with Safari, Scrivener, Google Docs, WordPress, and MS Word. It’s only available in English
Using the paraphrasing tool will make your writing easier to understand
You’ll get a high-quality analysis of your content’s readability as well as its sentence structure
Has add-ons for your browser to make grammar checks more convenient

The Pros and Cons of Bartleby

The Bartleby website does not offer refunds or money-back guarantees. This could be argued as the company's largest con as many users have reported that Bartleby sometimes continues to deduct payments even after their subscriptions have been canceled.

Despite this, there are still many reasons you may consider utilizing Bartleby. Some of the pros and cons to consider include:

ProsCons
It’s affordableThe plug-in has a cluttered and glitchy interface
Its plagiarism checker is generally accurateThere have been discrepancies with overcharging issues after cancellations
It has a helpful student learning hubThe writing tools aren’t powerful
The customer support isn’t great
The grammar checker is often inaccurate

How They Compare in Ease of Use

When investing in a grammar checking tool, ease of use must be considered. Any tool that is tedious to use will negatively affect your creative process, no matter how helpful it is.

Having tested both Bartleby and Grammarly, I can confidently say that Grammarly is far easier to use. On Grammarly, everything is laid out clearly, and it is very easy to understand.

When using their website you simply copy and paste or upload the content from your computer then it’s off to the races.

There are four categories in which all suggestions are listed:

  • Correctness
  • Delivery
  • Clarity
  • Engagement

A large icon is available at the bottom right of your screen if you want to check for plagiarism. Click on it and Grammarly will provide a plagiarism score after a few seconds.

The Bartleby checker tool, in comparison, is unorganized and cluttered. There are different assistants on the same page, such as essay builder, editor, and review, which can be confusing.

After pasting your work, you'll notice that most words are underlined in pink. However, most of the suggestions aren't relevant or correct.

Additionally, Bartleby doesn't offer bulk corrections like Grammarly, which allows you to make multiple changes simultaneously. You'll have to dismiss each suggestion manually making the checking process far more tedious and time-consuming.
